THE POWER OF THE HANDWRITTEN NOTE

The House of Letters is dedicated to preserving the oft-forgotten art of correspondence through our workshops and social events. In the age of countless social media outlets, who simply picks up a pen and writes? Although digital communication plays a vital role in society, the most eloquent email will never be treasured like a handwritten letter or note.

In our digital world, people search for ways to reclaim their individuality. We often crave a personal sense of style that eludes us when we tap on a keyboard and send a message in a computer font. The decline of penmanship, especially in schools, is leading to a loss of culture and meaningful connections. Even in a fast-paced world, the union of pen and paper should coexist with the latest technology.

"Perhaps the best argument for keeping our pens is that otherwise, in a society that is recorded in more detail than any which came before it, we will leave plenty of data but very little of our personalities behind. Our descendants may struggle to read our letters, but they’ll never even see most of our texts and e-mails."

- BBC News Magazine, "The slow death of handwriting" by Neil Hallows
